In the Fall of 2019, around my birthday, my hubby and I badly needed a break from all the hustle bustle of the big city, the noise, the constant ringing of the phone, the home maintenance an all, and sometimes, even the kids (19, 18, 16) …

A l’automne 2019, autour de mon anniversaire, mon mari et moi avions vraiment besoin d’une pause de toute l’agitation de la grande ville, le bruit, la sonnerie constante du téléphone, l’entretien de la maison et parfois, même les enfants (19, 18, 16)…

So we rented a house in the Eastern Township, in Quebec (Canada) for 2 weeks, to get away from it all and from everybody … and then, well, nothing. I mean NOTHING. No noise, no drama, no obligation, no phone, not news, NOTHING. Just my hubby and me. Rediscovering ourselves and us, after almost 30 years being together.

On a donc loué une maison en Estrie, au Québec (Canada) pendant 2 semaines, pour s’éloigner de tout et de tout le monde… et puis, enfin, rien. Je veux dire RIEN. Pas de bruit, pas de drame, pas d’obligation, pas de téléphone, pas de nouvelles, RIEN. Juste mon mari et moi. Nous redécouvrir nous-mêmes et nous, après presque 30 ans passés ensemble.

Well, I was on vacation from work (IT Project Management) but hubby was still working, remotely. I guess this was a practice of what was about to become the global pandemic that we know today hahaha. But back then, let me tell you, this little unplugged vacation was a saviour for me, him and us. It had been a long time since I didn’t feel so carefree, relaxed and just well, serene and happy.

Eh bien, j’étais en vacances au travail (gestion de projet de TI), mais mon mari travaillait toujours, à distance. Je suppose que c’était une pratique pour ce qui était sur le point de devenir la pandémie mondiale que nous connaissons aujourd’hui hahaha. Mais à l’époque, laissez-moi vous dire, ces petites vacances débranchées ont été salvatrices pour moi, lui et nous. Cela faisait longtemps que je ne me sentais pas si insouciante, détendue et juste bien, sereine et heureuse.

I spent my days, doing minimal food prep for both of us, feeding the slow burning wood fireplace (boy did I miss this so much from my childhood !), taking walks in the beautiful surroundings, sleeping, playing cards with Hubby and well, doing crochet.

J’ai passé mes journées à faire la préparation de nourriture minimale pour nous deux, nourrir le feu de bois à combustion lente (Dieu que cette activité de mon enfance m’avait manquée !), faire des promenades dans les environs magnifiques, dormir, jouer aux cartes avec mon mari et bien sur, faire du crochet.
