Poncho for Vero

At a party of a mutual friend, a wonderful woman called Veronique came to me and asked me to make her a poncho … I never had any thoughts about any poncho but … but God knows why, I said yes, immediately !

I took me a long time to start (or re-start a couple of times lol!) but at one point it clicked : I new what to do. After that it was a breeze and the project was finished in no time. My poor customer had to wait some more as I had to take decent picture before handing it to her. (Along with convincing on my model; Thanks Miss. A !!)

Here is how I did it if you want to do it for yourself or one of your loved ones. Or for me if I want to do another one ! (since I have a very short term memory now … but that is another story!)

  • iris = (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc)

** The initial sc row is made by taking 2 loops from each chain. It makes it more sturdy than taking only one loop.

Ch 2 at the beginning of a row count as one dc.

  • Row 2: Ch 2, *iris in next ch sp of next iris*, repeat * to * across side, dc in turning ch 2. Turn. – 63 iris & 2 dc
  • Row 3-10: repeat row 3. – 63 iris & 2 dc
  • Leave 4 inches of yarn and cut it
  • Weave the 4 ends of the body and border of the poncho.

How to sew the poncho:

  • Fold the material in two, length wise, were you started on top and the border at the bottom. You should have a rectangle of 30 inches by 24 inches.
  • On top, start measuring 13 inches where the material folds. This will be the opening for the head.
  • Sew neatly, with your preferred method, the next 8 inches of the poncho at the top, with the reserved 24 inches of yarn you kept at the beginning. Weave in the ends This will be the part that will rest on the shoulder.
  • Leave the remaining 9 inches of the top not sewed. it will be the opening for one arm.
  • You are done !

Have fun with it, and happy crochet !!
